Mamoun's Vegan & Gluten-Free Menu: What to Order

Mamoun's Vegetarian Platter with falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh and grape leaves, vegan and mostly gluten-free

By Mamoun's Falafel · Updated October 24, 2026

Most of what Mamoun's serves is vegan, and a large part of it is gluten-free, because the menu is built on chickpeas, eggplant, sesame, rice, and vegetables rather than on dairy or wheat fillers. This guide lists every item by what it is free of, so a vegan or gluten-free guest can order without guessing, and so the person ordering for a group knows which trays cover everyone.

Short answer: Falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, grape leaves, and seasoned rice are both vegan and gluten-free. Tabbouleh, seasoned fries, lentil soup, pita, baklava, and the specialty drinks are vegan. Chicken kebob and shawarma are gluten-free. The two items to watch are the garlic sauce, which is not vegan, and tabbouleh, which contains bulgur wheat. Pita and baklava contain gluten.

Everything on the Vegetarian Platter is vegan; everything except the tabbouleh and the pita is gluten-free.

2. Vegan Sandwiches

Every sandwich comes in a pita with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tahineh sauce, so the pita is the only source of gluten in a falafel sandwich. These five are vegan as listed on the menu:

  • Falafel. The original, since 1971.
  • Classic. Falafel and hummus.
  • Manhattan. Falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh, pickles, pickled turnips, and olives.
  • West Village. Falafel, baba ganouj, and pickles.
  • East Village. Falafel, hummus, tabbouleh, and olives.

Add hot sauce freely; it is vegan and gluten-free. Skip the garlic sauce if you are vegan.

The falafel sandwich: vegan as served. The pita is the only gluten.

3. Gluten-Free Plates

Plates are served over a choice of salad or seasoned rice, with tahineh sauce and a pita on the side. Ask for no pita, or set it aside, and these plates are gluten-free according to the menu tags:

  • Falafel Plate. Vegan and gluten-free.
  • Combo Plate. Falafel, hummus, and baba ganouj; vegan and gluten-free. You can substitute any vegetarian item at no extra charge, or add chicken, lamb, or beef for an extra charge.
  • Chicken Kebob Plate. Gluten-free; halal.
  • Shawarma Plate. Gluten-free; halal.

The Hummus Bowl, offered at select locations, comes with croutons and pita, so it is not a gluten-free order as served.

The Combo Plate over salad: vegan and gluten-free once the pita is set aside.

4. Sides and Sauces

Vegan and gluten-free sides: falafel (4 pieces), hummus, baba ganouj, grape leaves (4 pieces), and seasoned rice. Vegan but not gluten-free: tabbouleh. Vegan with no gluten-free tag on the menu: seasoned fries, lentil soup, pickled veggies, and pita.

Sauces: hot sauce and tahineh sauce are vegan and gluten-free. Garlic sauce is the one sauce that is not vegan.

5. Drinks and Dessert

All four specialty drinks are vegan and gluten-free: Mint Lemonade, Mango, Tamarind (select locations), and Mamoun's Iced Tea, an unsweetened black tea brewed with cardamom. Baklava is listed as vegan but contains gluten and walnuts.

6. Catering Trays for Mixed Groups

For a group with vegan and gluten-free guests, the catering menu makes this simple:

  • The Vegetarian Platter (feeds 6 to 8) holds falafel, hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh, and grape leaves. Everything on it is vegan; everything except the tabbouleh and the pitas is gluten-free.
  • The Falafel Side Tray (30 pieces with tahini) is vegan and gluten-free.
  • The Hummus or Baba Ganouj Tray and the Seasoned Rice Tray are vegan and gluten-free.
  • The Falafel Sandwich Station is vegan; guests avoiding gluten can skip the pitas and build a plate.
